Simone Bersini

Simone Bersini
Research Scientist

Simone Bersini works as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Cell and Tissue Engineering Laboratory. He graduated cum laude in Biomedical Engineering in 2010 (Politecnico di Milano) with a Master Thesis entitled "Design of a microfluidic system for pharmacological tests". In 2011 he enrolled in the Doctoral Program in Bioengineering at Politecnico di Milano (Laboratory of Biological Structure Mechanics) under the joint supervision of Prof. Gabriele Dubini and Dr. Matteo Moretti. His main research activities are in the fields of Microfluidics, Tissue Engineering and In Vitro Models development through combined computational and experimental approaches. During his PhD he developed and characterized advanced microfluidic models for the study of organ-specific cancer metastases in collaboration with the Mechanobiology Lab (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and the BioSystems and Micromechanics Lab (Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology) advised by Prof. RD Kamm. Following graduation in 2014, he spent 5 months in the Khademhosseini Lab (Harvard-MIT Division for Health Sciences and Technology) where he contributed to the optimization of a bioreactor for cardiac tissue engineering and designed microfluidic devices for the study of angiogenesis within bone-mimicking microenvironments.
